đź’» Unicorn AI Startup Comes out of Hiding

AI startup Humane raised $241 million without a single customer.

After 5 years, the company finally demoed their standalone wearable device - and it looked like something right out of Black Mirror.

Through voice commands, co-founder Imran Chaudhri used the device to answer a phone call that was projected onto his hand (see the tweet below), translate from English to French, and create a summary from his "emails, calendar invites, and messages."

On top of that, the wearable device knew of Chaudhri’s dairy intolerance and reminded him not to eat a chocolate bar.

  • Note to self: do not let Humane know I’m sensitive to milk.

🎤 (Drake + The Weeknd) x AI = Banger

After gaining over 15 million views on TikTok and a collective 1 million streams, the song “Heart On My Sleeve” was taken down after a copyright claim by Universal Music Group (UMG).

Here’s the catch: the song was created by the account Ghostwriter977, who used AI to create vocals that sounded like Drake and The Weeknd - and it ended up being a banger…

UMG’s not stopping there.

The world’s largest music company is asking streaming services, like Spotify and Apple Music, to ban AI companies from accessing their music catalog to train models.

This incident has sparked major debates about the limits of copyright law in the age of artificial intelligence, and raises important questions about the role of AI in creative industries.

This isn’t the first time something like this has happened.

In 2020, Jay-Z sued a youtube channel that made AI covers using his vocals.

Youtube took down the song, but later reinstated it since the takedown requests were “incomplete”.

Here is We Didn’t Start the Fire by Billy Joel Jay-Z.

💸 Reddit’s Looking to Cash In

The AI industry could add $15.7 trillion to the global economy by 2030, according to PWC.

Reddit’s looking to get a little taste of that pie.

Just last week, the company announced that it will change its API pricing model - targeting companies, like Google, Meta, and OpenAI, that use Reddit’s data to train AI models.

Reddit’s not alone: Stack Overflow and Twitter made similar announcements, with Twitter’s new enterprise-level API costing between $42,000 - $210,000 monthly

  • Microsoft dropped Twitter from its advertising platform after the price hike, and now Elon Musk wants to sue in response.
