💪 Apple’s New AI Fitness Buddy

Tim Cook said, “Apple’s most important contribution to mankind has been in health”, and it looks like the company is doubling down on that statement…

Apple’s building a new AI-powered coaching app - under the codename “Quartz” - that will combine AI and Apple Watch data to motivate customers to exercise, sleep better, and improve their eating habits.

In 2020, Apple launched a similar coaching app in partnership with the Singapore government called LumiHealth.

The difference?

The Singapore government paid its citizens who used LumiHealth, and you’ll have to pay to use Quartz.

It’s not just the coaching app: Apple also wants to track their customers’ emotions - yeah, a bit weird.

  • Apple’s updating the Health app to let users log their mood throughout the day, but the plan is to eventually use AI to recognize a user’s mood through their speech and text.

🤖 Meta Has Big Plans for AI

You know Meta? The company that wants you to wear a headset at all times.

Here’s the strategy: Meta wants to integrate AI into all of its products, and it’s starting with text-based AI tools in WhatsApp and Messenger - think ChatGPT inside a messaging app.

  • It might sound silly, but there are tons of potential use cases - if you run a business, you could have an army of customer support agents or sales reps.

There’s more: Last month, Meta announced a plan to bring AI to its advertising platform so brands can better target their customers.

🇮🇹 ChatGPT’s Back in Italy

OpenAI learned that it’s Italy’s way or the highway.

Last month, Italy’s Data Protection Authority - known as Garante - banned ChatGPT over privacy concerns and gave OpenAI until last Sunday to fix the issues.

  • Garante was concerned about how OpenAI stored user data and failed to check a user’s age.

It seems the two have settled their differences, as OpenAI announced it would:

  1. allow users to opt out of having their personal data - such as their chat history - used for training purposes.

  2. verify that users in Italy are at least 13 years old.

It’s not over yet: Even though ChatGPT is up and running again in Italy, Garante has said it is still investigating OpenAI over privacy concerns.

Plus, European Data Protection Board - which is almost like all the Garante’s in the EU combined into one mega Garante - set up its own task force to investigate OpenAI.
