🚨 Amazon Has Secret AI Plans

While we’ve all been focused on OpenAI vs Google, Amazon has been moving in silence like a real g.

Back in 2021, the company unveiled its $1,599 home robot Astro which can patrol your home while you’re away; recognize the sound of a smoke alarm, carbon monoxide alarm, or glass breaking; and keep an eye out on loved ones.

Astro’s getting an upgrade. According to leaked documents, Amazon is working on an AI project called “Burnham” to integrate an “intelligence and a conversational spoken interface” to a smart home robot — think of ChatGPT inside of Astro.

With this upgrade, Astro could use logic to make decisions rather than complete pre-programmed tasks.

  • For example, if upgraded Astro spots broken glass on the floor, it would understand the potential hazard, and prioritize sweeping up the glass before moving onto its next task.

  • Or if someone in the home fell and needed medical assistance, the robot would call 911.

🩺 Using AI to Detect Alzheimer’s Dementia

Currently, Alzheimer’s Dementia (AD) is extremely difficult to detect early on, but it’s highly likely advancements in AI will help change that.

A recent study used AI to analyze acoustic and linguistic features - such as, how quickly a patient spoke, the number of times they paused, and if they were coherent.

It worked! Ultimately, the AI detected which patients suffered from AD with a 75% accuracy rate. Since the model is continuing to improve, it could potentially detect AD early enough to allow for more types of treatments.

On a side note, this model improves telehealth medicine immensely.

Since the AI uses audio files to analyze speech, doctors could test patients virtually for Alzheimer’s.

đź’» OpenAI Makes Open-Source Software

A leaked letter from a senior engineer at Google claimed open-source AI software, like Meta’s LLaMA, is a direct threat to Google and OpenAI.

Open-source means the code is available for everyone. Anyone could modify the code to fit a specific need or contribute to the code to improve it for everyone else.

OpenAI must have heard the news loud and clear because the company is planning to release an open-source model in the near future.

This is a smart move. Tons of people would make outside contributions to an open-source model from OpenAI, enabling the software to improve really quickly.

More recently, OpenAI’s CEO Sam Altman testified in front of Congress regarding AI regulation.

Altman said a new government agency should license AI companies đź‘€
